Dare
Dare I dream of roses,
a night sky passing proud,
Orion and all his friends standing,
in heaven’s dark blue, not loud—
Like children we remember,
the home from where we were,
the rocket then we boarded—
steel forged and smoothed our nerve.
The first kiss, the awkward bumble,
mounting bills, the weight of tears
from the last message of a mother,
silhouettes of ones once near—
To hold on when voices shatter,
to say sorry after it‘s too late,
to rise up before the mirror,
to start again though grief berates—
As trees grow bare in Autumn,
and sight becomes less kind,
we dare dream of roses, stars and wonder—
travel universes in our mind.
