A Door to Leave Open
Death is, and death was,
sometimes a young face
with eyes like a dove,
escort to a lone place,
a hand in a glove,
sometimes an ocean
no warm touch or love —
A name to remember,
a friendship to bear,
a heart to rip open,
then slowly repair,
sometimes a garden,
with no one to care —
A horn and a signal,
the crashing of tides,
sometimes a full moon,
‘neath velvet red skies,
a door to leave open,
from dust to arise,
a thought set in motion,
a flame deep inside.
